The Line. Bandung Sea of Fire, Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium, Bandung, Indonesia June 2017

June 11, 2017. I found myself at a football match at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium, which translates to "Bandung Sea of Fire Sports Arena Stadium". I was there as a guest of a team from Jakarta and as things progressed I came to find out that the tensions between the two clubs, or really between the fans of the clubs, was very high, and at times very violent. 18 months after this image was captured, a Persija fan was killed by Persib fans.

But on this day, Persija Jakarta won the match, the crowds grew increasingly ugly, and the Polisi formed a corridor to escort the players and anyone on the pitch to safety.

The stadium lived up to its name that day.
